FAQ
When is the best time to have maternity photos taken?
I generally recommend scheduling your maternity session between 30 and 37 weeks, with the goal of having your session on or before 37 weeks when possible.
Every pregnancy is different, though, so we can talk about what makes sense for you. I have photographed maternity sessions later in pregnancy when needed.
When should I book my maternity session?
I recommend reaching out during your second trimester, especially if you have a specific date, weekend, or season in mind.
You don't have to wait until you're showing to book. Booking early simply gives us more flexibility when choosing your actual session date.
Can my partner and children be in my maternity session?
Absolutely. Your maternity session can be focused entirely on you, or it can include your partner, children, or the whole family.
I love both the beautiful portraits of mom and the images that show the relationships surrounding this new baby.
What if my child doesn't cooperate?
Then we roll with it.
Seriously. Kids don't need to sit still, smile on command, or behave perfectly for your photos to be meaningful.
I work with children all the time and use movement, play, connection, and gentle direction rather than expecting them to pose perfectly. Sometimes the cuddles, silly moments, and in-between expressions end up being some of my favorite images.
What if we're awkward in front of the camera?
Most people tell me they aren't comfortable having their picture taken.
You don't have to know how to pose, where to put your hands, or what to do with your face. I'll give you gentle direction throughout the session while leaving plenty of room for natural interaction and connection.
I'm not looking for perfect poses. I'm looking for the way you naturally love each other.
What should we wear?
You don't need to have a Pinterest-perfect wardrobe.
I recommend choosing clothing that feels comfortable and like you, while coordinating rather than perfectly matching. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and simple textures tend to photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your family and connection.
You'll receive my style guide after booking with more specific outfit guidance and inspiration.
Do I have to wear a maternity dress?
Not at all.
Maternity gowns and dresses can be beautiful, but you can also wear something simple and comfortable. I have pieces available through my client closet if you'd like to use them, and I'll help you plan the rest of your family's outfits.
Do maternity sessions have to be outdoors?
No. I offer both outdoor maternity sessions and maternity sessions in my Burlington home studio.
The studio is especially great if you want a clean, simple look with the focus on you, your bump, and your family.
Do you retouch your photos?
Yes. Every delivered image is professionally edited and finished in my signature style.
My goal is natural, warm, and true-to-life images. I want you to still look like yourselves, just with the little distractions cleaned up and the image polished.
