Location Guide
Finding the perfect location is an important part of bringing your session vision to life! Below are some of my favorite go-to spots—places I return to time and time again for their beauty, versatility, and reliable lighting. But these are by no means the only options! I love discovering new locations and am always open to exploring different spots that are meaningful to you. If you have a special place in mind, let’s chat and make it happen!
Rosario Beach
Why I Love It: This stunning rocky beach features driftwood, tide pools, and a dramatic coastline. There’s also a dock, offering a completely different look, making it easy to add variety to your session gallery. Whether you want soft beach tones or structured dockside shots, this location delivers.
Best Time to Shoot: Evening golden hour for warm, soft light.
Considerations: Some light walking is required to get to the best spots, and it can get windy, so flowy dresses work beautifully here! This is a really popular spot, so during the summer it does get crowded at times.
Parking: A Discovery Pass is required.
Northern State Recreation Area
Why I Love It: This park is one of my favorite spots for dreamy, nature-filled sessions. The open fields of tall grass, winding trails, and soft mountain views create a warm, natural backdrop that photographs beautifully — especially in golden hour light. It’s perfect for families, maternity, and motherhood sessions with an outdoorsy, relaxed feel. It’s also a great choice if you want to let the kiddos run and play or bring along the family pup for a shoot.
- Best Time to Shoot: Evening golden hour when the light glows through the trees and tall grass.
- Considerations: Light walking is required along the trails and fields. The tall grass can be uneven in spots, so plan footwear accordingly. It’s a spacious location and usually quiet, making it easy for little ones (and pups) to roam.
- Parking: Free parking is available in the main lot near the entrance.
Christianson's Nursery
Why I Love It: This charming location is beautiful year-round, making it a perfect spot no matter the season. With its lush gardens, vintage greenhouse, and historic buildings, it offers a timeless, romantic backdrop. It’s also a fantastic backup location in case of inclement weather, as the greenhouses provide a warm, cozy setting - especially great for little ones!
- Best Time to Shoot: Anytime! The colors and overall vibe shift slightly depending on what’s in bloom, giving each session a unique feel.
- Considerations: The greenhouses provide shelter from the elements, making this an excellent option for unpredictable weather.
- Parking: Free on-site parking.
Mount Vernon Studio
Why I Love It: This cozy, natural light studio offers a clean, neutral space that keeps the focus on you and your family. The soft, simple backdrop photographs beautifully and pairs perfectly with my client closet dresses. It’s an ideal spot for newborn, milestone, and motherhood sessions — especially when you want that bright, airy look without worrying about the weather.
- Best Time to Shoot: Midday to early afternoon when the natural light is at its best inside the studio.
- Considerations: This space is warm, private, and especially great for newborns and little ones who need a quiet, calm environment. It’s also a wonderful option for winter sessions or clients who prefer an indoor setting.
- Parking: Free parking is available directly in front of the studio.
In-Home Sessions
Why I Love It: In-home sessions are most popular for newborn photography but can be a beautiful choice for any stage of motherhood. They provide a relaxed, personal setting that captures your family in a space that’s meaningful to you. Plus, staying home keeps little ones comfortable, making for more natural, candid moments.
- Best Spaces: Only one or two rooms are needed! Bright, naturally lit areas near windows work best—common choices include the nursery, master bedroom, or living room.
- No Need for Perfection: Many families worry about whether their home is “photo-ready,” but I promise, it doesn’t have to be! A little decluttering in the areas we’ll use is all that’s needed. The focus is on your family, not the background.
- Vibe & Feel: In-home sessions naturally lend themselves to a more lifestyle or documentary-style approach, capturing authentic connections in a way that feels effortless and cozy.
